Mark Trimble, Principal Flute

Principal Flute

This month’s featured musician is our principal flute player Mark Trimble! Mark has been performing with the Amarillo Symphony for 14 years! He began playing the piano at 8 years old and has been playing the flute for several decades starting out in 6th grade band.

Mark says about the flute, “I love the tone color of the flute- such a beautiful singing quality, but it’s also able to play very energetic and spritely passages that bring lots of excitement to music”.

In addition to playing with the Amarillo Symphony, Mark does freelance performances all throughout Amarillo and Dallas/Fort Worth with occasional teaching. Mark is also the President and co-founder of a non-profit organization promoting body positivity and supporting the LGBTQ+ community!

Mark still loves to play his first instrument, the piano. “We are lucky to own a 1927 Steinway that Leonard Bernstein once played on! Playing piano is a fun diversion from my flute music. Repetitive practice on it is almost meditative for me”, says Mark.

Some of Mark’s hobbies include traveling, weightlifting, baking, gardening, and spending time with his two Siberian Huskies and tuxedo cat!
