ASYO Preparatory Strings

Alejandra Attebury, conductor

Preparatory Strings, ASYO’s youngest ensemble, develops skillful music reading ability – fluid note recognition, rhythmic coordination, and basic instrumental technique. Young musicians build foundational skills necessary to play a broader variety of repertoire. Participating students must have at least one semester of experience with a school string ensemble.

The rehearsal time is evenly split: a 45-minute sectional coaching with Amarillo Symphony musicians and other area educators, and a 45-minute string orchestra rehearsal with conductor, Alejandra Attebury. Students also get a 15-minute break between rehearsals where they socialize with friends and enjoy a snack provided by the Amarillo Symphony.

Rehearsals are held weekly on Monday afternoons (through the academic year) from 4:30-6:15 p.m. at the Amarillo College Music Building, Washington campus. For specifics, please view the 2019-2020 Preparatory Strings Rehearsal Schedule.

Member musicians are expected to be active in the school instrumental music program that coincides with their focus in ASYO. We wish to enhance, not replace, school programs. Please view the Required Signatures form.
