AMARILLO, TEXAS – (November 16, 2015) – The Amarillo Symphony, (www.amarillosymphony.org), the leader of orchestral music in the Texas Panhandle since 1924, announces the return of Symphony Kids with Music Director and Conductor Jacomo Rafael Bairos at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.
Led by Jacomo Rafael Bairos, the full membership of the Amarillo Symphony is pleased to present Carnegie Hall’s Link Up: The Orchestra Sings, an educational concert experience designed for students in grades 3-5. Composers and musicians create melodies, which can be sung or played on instruments. When an orchestra plays these melodies, the orchestra sings. In this informative and melody-based program, students explore melody in a range of colorful orchestral repertoire, sing, play the recorder, compose, and perform in a culminating concert. Repertoire highlights include Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” second movement; Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”; and Stravisky’s Firebird Suite.
“Last year, more than 4,000 elementary students joined us for this joyful exploration of classical music; we are eager to bring this energy to the 2015 performances,” said Irma Borup, education coordinator for the Amarillo Symphony. “For many, Symphony Kids will be a child’s first experience with a live orchestra and this series of concerts is designed to build a memory to last generations.”
Symphony Kids performances are scheduled for Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts. Concerts begin at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm both days.
Tickets for Symphony Kids are $3 each and reservations are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are for school groups, pre-schools, home-school associations and other groups and are only accepted with completed reservation form and payment.
