AMARILLO, TEXAS – (February 8, 2016) – The Amarillo Symphony, (www.amarillosymphony.org), leader of orchestral music in the Texas Panhandle since 1924, announces their upcoming concert “Hooray for Hollywood”. This exciting performance features selections from award-winning movie music including Star Wars, Hook, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Lord of the Rings, Sound of Music and more. Join us Friday and Saturday, February 19 and 20, 2016 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts and experience Hollywood in Amarillo!
The Amarillo Symphony takes you on the great movie ride from your favorite Hollywood films. We will re-live some of the greatest movie-music scores ever written from films past and present. John Williams is considered one of the greatest film composers of all time. In a career spanning over six decades, he has composed some of the most popular and recognizable film scores in cinematic history including: E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Star Wars, Schindler’s List, Flight to Never Land from Hook and more. You’ll hear these extraordinary film scores in this fun, lighthearted evening filled with surprises.
“This concert will bring the magic and splendor of the movies to the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts stage,” said Jacomo Rafael Bairos, Music Director and Conductor of the Amarillo Symphony. “Icons such as Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, Leonard Bernstein and of course the greatest of all time, John Williams will be featured throughout this special evening! Without compelling music, the drama, action and emotion of a movie’s story can’t be told. The Amarillo Symphony will perform some of the most celebrated movie composers of all time in a program that dazzles and delights. The evening will be hosted by Amarillo’s own Andy Justus, KAMR Local 4 News Anchor and Patrick Burns, Owner of Palace Coffee Company. This award-winning night of music will not only feature our incredible Symphony musicians but also the Tascosa High School Choir. Throwing in some comedy, insight and surprises throughout the night you will be swept off your feet through this musical journey. Hooray for Hollywood will be held at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, February 19 and Saturday, February 20 at 7:30 pm (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.).
