AMARILLO, TEXAS – (April 13, 2016) – The Amarillo Symphony, (www.amarillosymphony.org), leader of orchestral music in the Texas Panhandle since 1924, announces details regarding its upcoming season finale, PROJECT Trio Returns: BILLY THE KID. Join us Friday and Saturday, April 22 & 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts!

PROJECT Trio returns to Amarillo after their overwhelming success during their 2014 Amarillo premiere. PROJECT Trio is a passionate, high energy chamber music ensemble comprised of three virtuosic composers/performers from Brooklyn, NY. Blending their classical training with an eclectic taste in musical styles, PROJECT Trio has made an impact on audiences of all ages. We end the 2015-2016 season with the concert that is unmatched in any concert venue.

“PROJECT Trio returns, as well as a bunch of musical misfits join us to close out our amazing 91st season,” said Jacomo Rafael Bairos, Music Director and Conductor of the Amarillo Symphony. “It has been an enormous joy and journey these last three seasons, and I am so excited and thrilled to continue as Music Director for the Amarillo Symphony! Reimagining the music of Bizet begins out unique program as Sam Hyken’s Refried Farandole captures what it means to be fresh, inventive and relevant for our audiences. PROJECT Trio’s amazing energy and infectious music making comes back to the Globe-News Center to set the stage on fire. With new arrangements and a co-commissioned concerto by Adam Schoenberg titled “Scatter”, their artistry is sure to sweep you off your feet once again. Billy the Kid and Till Eulenspiegel round out this program of lively characters and exciting drama. I can’t imagine a more exhilarating program to end our special season, and I could not be more honored and ecstatic for the accomplishments that the Amarillo Symphony has achieved this glorious season.”

Composer Sam Hyken has had a rich musical career as a performer, producer, arranger and composer. Hyken is also the husband of our Principal Violist, Yael Kleinman Hyken. His arrangements of Bodega premiered with the Amarillo Symphony and PROJECT Trio in February 2014. This concert will feature his composition, Refried Farandole.

The Amarillo Symphony has co-commissioned a new work by composer Adam Schoenberg along with the IRIS Orchestra Tennessee, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia for our Grand Finale performed by PROJECT Trio. The new work is titled Scatter for PROJECT Trio and Orchestra.

PROJECT Trio Returns: BILLY THE KID will be held at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 pm (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.).
