AMARILLO, TEXAS – (September 10, 2015) – The Amarillo Symphony, (, the leader of orchestral music in the Texas Panhandle since 1924, kicks off the 2015-2016 season with BACH & BRAHMS featuring concertmaster, Espen Lilleslåtten and principal second violinist, Michelle Skinner on Friday and Saturday, September 18th and 19th. The duo will perform Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, widely considered one of the greatest concertos ever written. For some Bach is known as the grandfather of all classical music, and his mastery of form, harmony, and style culminate in the double violin concerto.

The orchestra will also perform A Prayer for Spring by composer in residence, Chris Rogerson. This piece was composed in 2008 and is a lush, romantic work, easy to grasp on first hearing. The night continues as the orchestra performs Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin and followed by Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D major.

“Our season opener, BACH & BRAHMS celebrates the classics the Amarillo Symphony musicians perform so richly and with passion,” said Jacomo Rafael Bairos, Music Director and Conductor. “We are excited to dedicate the entire season to our dear friend Eddie Melin who was an avid supporter of the Amarillo Symphony. This concert is the beginning of what is going to be an exciting and eventful time for the symphony. Our future together on this journey has never been brighter.”

BACH & BRAHMS will be held at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19 at 7:30 pm.
