Earth: Our Big Blue Marble
Appropriate for Teachers & Students: 3rd-6th grade
October 29 & 30, 2025 • 9:00am, 11:00am, and 1:00pm
Blast off on a musical journey through space! Join the Amarillo Symphony & the WTAMU Symphony in a combined performance as we explore the wonders of our solar system and discover what makes our planet Earth so special.
Here’s what you’ll experience:
- Meet the Planets: We’ll introduce you to Mars from the rocky inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars) and Jupiter from the giant outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune).
- Earth is Unique: Learn why Earth is the only planet known to support life, with its perfect distance from the sun, liquid water, and rocky surface.
- The Big Blue Marble: Discover why Earth is called the “Big Blue Marble” and see stunning images of our planet from space.
- Earth’s Cycles: Explore Earth’s rotation and orbit, how they create day and night, and the seasons.
- Earth’s Resources: Learn about the amazing resources that Earth provides, from the air we breathe to the water we drink.
OBJECTIVES: Students will have the opportunity to:
- Experience a live orchestra performance.
- Practice active listening skills, aurally identifying sections of the orchestra by timbre.
- Describe a variety of compositions and musical events in aural examples such as changes in timbre, form, tempo, dynamics, or articulation, using musical vocabulary.
- Connect musical themes and moods with the planets, especially Earth, to experience how music can depict an extra-musical idea.
PRESENTATION FORMAT: Live concert with the Amarillo Symphony (full symphonic orchestra), multimedia included; conductor relates to and leads students through the performance.
